Hardly any country has benefited as much from free global trade as Germany. But what if this system is gone forever? This question arises when reading the latest study by political economist Milan Babić.
The reactions to the United States' new tariff policy so far have largely been limited to alarmed expressions of the impending collapse of the existing global trade order. From the perspective of German politicians and the public, America's unilateral protectionist turn appears like a loss of order, like the destruction of a regulated system that must be restored as soon as possible, in as similar a form as possible.
